We provide our patients with custom, handcrafted artificial eyes tailored to fit each individual. A custom ocular prosthesis is specifically designed for individuals who have undergone enucleation or evisceration surgery, or were born with congenital anophthalmia, providing a personalized solution to meet their unique needs.
Scleral Shell prosthetics are custom-designed artificial eyes that are worn over blind, disfigured, phthisical (shrunken) or congenitally microphthalmic globes.
Our dedicated staff specializes in caring for even the youngest of patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease during every visit. We prioritize building lifelong, meaningful, and trusting relationships with each child and their family, creating a positive experience that fosters confidence and trust.
We recommend scheduling annual or biannual appointments to address normal wear and tear on your prosthesis. During these visits, we polish out minor scratches and remove built-up secretions that could lead to irritation and/or infection. Additionally, the fit of the prosthesis is carefully evaluated. Maintaining a clean, well-fitting ocular prosthesis is essential for promoting overall socket health.
Over time, it is normal for anatomical changes to occur in the eye socket, which may require size adjustments to your ocular prosthesis to ensure a comfortable and proper fit. During evaluations, we carefully assess how the prosthesis fits within the socket and make necessary modifications by adding or removing material, avoiding the need for replacement. Young children, in particular, often require more frequent adjustments and replacements as their facial growth and orbital structure change.
Our experienced front office staff is highly knowledgeable about durable medical equipment insurance coverage and ready to assist with any questions you may have. The staff is able to request prior authorizations per your health plan requirements, as well as submit claims directly to your insurance(s) for processing or patient reimbursement.
