We provide our patients with custom, hand-crafted artificial eyes, tailored to fit each individual. An ocular prosthesis is meant for the patient who has undergone enucleation or evisceration surgery.
Scleral Shell prosthetics are artificial eyes that are worn over blind, disfigured, phthisical (shrunken) or congenital microphthalmic globes.
Our staff specializes in working with even the youngest of patients. It is incredibly important to us that our younger patients feel comfortable during each and every visit. Our goal is to create lifelong, meaningful, and trusting relationships with each child and their family members.
We recommend annual or bi-annual appointments to polish out any tiny scratches that occur during normal wear of the prosthesis, as well as to clean off any built-up secretions that can cause irritation and infection. At these regular visits, the prosthesis fit is also evaluated. A clean and well-fitting ocular prosthesis is essential in maintaining overall socket health.
Reductions and Enlargements: It is normal to experience anatomical changes to your socket(s) over time, and size adjustments to the ocular prosthesis become necessary so that the fit is flush and comfortable within the socket.
We evaluate how the prosthesis is fitting within the socket space and can adjust the prosthesis size accordingly.
Our knowledgeable front office staff is well-versed in Durable Medical Equipment insurance coverage and is able to answer any questions you may have. The staff is able to request prior authorizations per your health plan requirements, and also submit bills directly to your insurance(s) for claims processing and/or patient reimbursement.
